One Good Move By Minnesota Today

As Timberwolves fans await news of possible trades to either improve the team or start over by trading Kevin Garnett, the Lynx organization made a very important move.
Check back soon for my SPM article on the re-signing of Svetlana Abrosimova and the Lynx upcoming season.

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Lynx today announced that they have re-signed forward Svetlana Abrosimova to a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"As we continue to put together a playoff-caliber team, it was important for us to have Svetlana be a part of that," Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith said. "We're really excited to have her back in a Lynx uniform. The energy and work ethic she brings to the table are important to what we're trying to accomplish as a team."

Abrosimova, the longest-tenured player on the team has played each of her six seasons in a Lynx uniform after being selected by Minnesota seventh overall in the 2001 WNBA Draft. A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, she has appeared 170 games with the Lynx, averaging 9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 minutes per game. The 6-2 forward was a member of Connecticut's 2000 NCAA Championship squad. In addition to her WNBA and collegiate experiences, Abrosimova has also played for the Russian National Team, the Russian Olympic Team and has played several seasons of international basketball.

"I'm excited about what Svetlana brings to our team," Lynx Head Coach Don Zierden said. "Her versatility and experience will help her to thrive in our new system. The organization and our fans are glad to bring her back to Minnesota."
