A Risk the Timberwolves Need to Take

Lately, the rumor mill has been going crazy. Anybody who has an opinion has been speaking on who the Timberwolves will draft on Thursday and the opinions are different everywhere you look. You have been bombarded with the names Corey Brewer, Jeff Green, Spencer Hawes and Mike Conley Jr.

Pretty good article Stephen... you have done a little more to persuade me we should acquire Artest. I definitely agree that he is better than Ricky Azzle in every aspect of the game.

However, I am disappointed that you didn't really address Artest's propensity to go completely pyscho. What happens if we acquire him and he acts up? Get's a long suspension or becomes a cancer? That is the LAST thing this team needs and it could completely blow up in our face. I almost think I'd rather keep the #7 and take Brewer.

College Wolf,

My thought is this...if you ask KG himself who he would rather play alongside between Davis and Artest, he would chose Artest 100 out of 100 times. Since KG could care less what you do off the basketball court, he would be a teammate that would be great for a "cancer" like Artest.

The flaw in your logic though is that, at the very least, Artest has been doing his job on the court for quite awhile now.

Sure, this past season he had the issues with his dogs (who AK calls the "Michael Vick of the NBA) and his domestic issues with his wife. Both of these are certainly very serious and need to be addressed, but I am inclined to take that risk for one more chance with Garnett.

...but, according to all the reports out there, we won't need to have this discussion since Garnett is on his way out.

Stephen,

No one will disagree that KG would rather play with Artest, and certainly not that Artest is a stud on the court.

I'm just saying, what if he blows the chance to contribute on the court, due to his littany of issues. Then what? I mean, we'll look like idiots if he blows yet another chance.

I know, I've heard all the rumors as well regarding the three way with KG to Phoenix and us getting Atlanta's picks. So yeah, maybe we don't need to have anymore discussion.

One last thing though, would you be ok with us acquiring a guy with the character that Artest has? Would you be proud to have him on your team? I wouldn't particularily. That also goes against everything the Front Office has been saying this off-season of only acquiring guys with good character and shaping up the personalities on this team.

This will probably be moot within 24 hours anyways though....
